Seasonal Functions Of Window Blinds: Winter

How To Prepare Your Home For Winter

As temperatures drop, we have tradedin the shorts for sweaters and have pulled those winter coats out of storage. But it isn’t just your wardrobe that needs changing out, yourhome needs a change, too. Taking steps to winterize your home can make fora more comfortable (and less costly) winter. Not only will you make certainthat your home’s heating equipment is running at peak performance, but properwinterizing also lets you head off potential problems before they arise.

With just a few simple steps, fromheater installation to replacing old insulation, you can ensure that your homeand family are safe and warm throughout the season.

Repair Drafty Windows and Doors

Over time, windows acquire tinycracks and crevices between the glass panes and the wood. These tiny crevicesoften go unnoticed, especially in the warmer weather where winds aren’t asnoticeable. However, you should check your windows for these cracks where cold air can come through, resulting in a colder house and higher heatingbills due to unwanted cool air coming in. Doors can experience the samedraftiness that windows often feature. Luckily, these all can be fixed withsome simple caulking which is both affordable and easy to for the average homeownerto do.

Proper Window Coverings
Another way to conserve energy is by usingproper window coverings. Energy-efficientshades are available in many style options to match your room and decor. Shades, such as cellular shades  also calledhoneycomb shades, have a single, double or triple layered design that traps theair between the layers of the shade in individual cells. This creates aneffective barrier between the window and the room and helps to preventtemperature transference. This saves money on heating in the winter and coolingduring the summer. Roman shades and roller shades are also good optionsfor saving energy and keeping the cost down.

Replace Insulation as Needed

Replacing insulationis an easy way to reduce both heating and cooling costs, so this is beneficialno matter the season. It’s easiest to replace insulation during other homerenovations since it may require a little more work to remove the oldinsulation and insert the new insulation, as well as sealing off the wall. There are many different types of insulation that you can upgrade to, so it’simportant to do your research to see what kind is most beneficial for yourhome, which can depend on the climate, location, etc.

Ensure Your Heat is Working Properly

It’s important to ensure that your heat is working properly, as there arequite a few things that can go wrong when your heat hasn’t been updated in along time. There are various ways to heat a home, from heating oil toelectricity, it’s important to have something to keep your home warm during thecold winter months. While a furnace may not be necessary in the warm weather,it’s important to look into heater installation before the cold weather hits.

Preparing your home for the winter is easy and typically affordable, depending on the shape of your home. It’s important to repair drafty windows and doors, install proper windowcoverings, replace insulation as needed, and ensure that your heat is workingcorrectly in order to protect you and your home’s residents during the coldmonths. These are just a few easy ways to prepare for the cold weather and to ensurethat you remain safe, as well as deterring costly repairs in the future.

Seasonal Functions Of Window Blinds: Summer

How to prepare you home when summer approaches!

Australia is a country for all seasons. You can do practically anything here, at any time of year.  There are four seasons across most of the country and a wet and dry season in our tropical north.

Summer in Australia is from December to February, and it is a great time to get outdoors! As summer approaches you need to prepare your home to make it more comfortable and breezy! With a steamy season ahead, it’s the time to ensure your home is ready for Summer! We will help you on your way to get you home ready for Summer! Here’s our summer-ready checklist!

Clean Air Conditioner and Ceiling Fans
Ensure your air conditioner and ceiling fans are running as efficiently as possible by ensuring they are in a clean and safe working condition. We recommend hiring a professional to service your air conditioner, particularly if you run yours a lot. It could save you money!

Install Security Screens on Windows & Doors
Receiving your electricity bill can be a cringe-worthy time, particularly during the warmer months when you use your air conditioner most. Many of us are also making an effort to lessen our carbon footprint so it makes sense to minimize our use of electric cooling methods. High quality security screens allow you to confidently secure your home whilst making the most of natural air flow. For best results, install Australian Standards approved security screens on as many windows and doors as possible on different sides of your home. This allows you to capture breezes no matter which direction they come from. You would be surprised just how cool you can keep your home by making the most of natural breezes and air flow!

Check Your Flyscreens
If you haven’t installed security screens on your windows and you like to open them when you’re at home, ensure you check your flyscreens for holes or rips. When the temperature rises, the last thing you need is to be bitten by pesky insects swarming in through damaged flyscreens!

Install Blinds
Installing blinds on your windows and glass doors is a stylish and functional way to regulate the temperature of your home. In Summer, blinds can assist to keep your home cool by reflecting heat that would normally enter through the glass. For best results, when using your air conditioner, close all blinds fully. If you are cooling your home naturally using security screens, close the blinds on windows and doors that receive the most sun.

Our timber and venetians blinds are ideal for providing year round insulation on your glass windows and doors. These delivers a new dimension to Composite Timber Venetian blinds. The composite used in these blinds is widely used across the USA. Tested by weather extremes as window & door frames as well as outdoor decking, this product provides a level of toughness not previously seen in the Composite Blind Market, which provide excellent glare and heat reduction. If insulation is your primary concern, we recommend fitting the blinds as close to the glass as possible.

Check Your Smoke Alarms
It’s vital to have working smoke alarms installed in your home all year round, but particularly coming into the “bushfire season.” Test your alarm monthly and ensure it is clean and always replace your alarms before the expiry date. For more information on smoke alarms and fire safety, visit the www.fire.nsw.gov.au/!

Install Fire Escape Screens
The Australian Standards recommends that each bedroom in your home should have a fire escape screen installed in a window.

Clean Out Your Gutters
It’s not a glamorous job, but cleaning out your gutters before the Summer season starts could save your home when dry debris can become a fire hazard.

Resuscitate Your Pool
If you’ve been a little neglectful of your pool over winter, now’s the time to nurse it back to health! If you have a pool, keeping it in top condition over Summer will allow you and your family to conveniently cool off when the mercury rises.
